TINUBU ACCEPTS EGBETOKUN’S RESIGNATION, NAMES DISU ACTING IGP

President Bola Tinubu has accepted the resignation of Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who stepped down citing family reasons.

The Presidency, in a statement on Tuesday by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Tinubu commended Egbetokun for his years of service, noting his role in strengthening the country’s internal security during his tenure.

Egbetokun, who was appointed in June 2023 for a four-year term expected to end in 2027, tendered his resignation earlier in the day.

Following the development, the President approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, as Acting IGP with immediate effect.

President Tinubu expressed confidence in Disu’s capacity to lead the force, citing his experience and leadership record.

The statement added that the President would soon convene the Nigeria Police Council to consider Disu’s appointment as substantive IGP, after which his name would be forwarded to the Senate for confirmation.

Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening national security and repositioning the police for improved professionalism and accountability.
