Tinubu Postpones Kaduna Trip, Heads to Benue to Address Lingering Crisis

President Bola Tinubu has shifted his scheduled official visit to Kaduna State, opting instead to travel to Benue on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, in a renewed effort to tackle the violent crisis plaguing parts of the state.

The President made this known on Monday during the commissioning of the Greater Abuja Water Supply Project, where he also expressed his condolences to the government and people of Benue State over the loss of lives resulting from the persistent conflict.

The visit, according to the President, will allow him to assess the situation firsthand and engage critical stakeholders in a bid to chart a path toward lasting peace.

“We must come together as one people to bring an end to this needless bloodshed,” Tinubu had said earlier, condemning the violence that has claimed countless lives and displaced many.

In a move that underscores the gravity of the crisis, Tinubu has dispatched top government and security officials ahead of his visit. Those sent include the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the National Security Adviser, the Inspector-General of Police, heads of intelligence agencies, and the Chairmen of the National Assembly Committees on Defence.

While in Benue, the President is expected to hold a town hall meeting with traditional rulers, political actors, religious and community leaders, and youth groups.

Originally, President Tinubu was to be in Kaduna on Wednesday, June 18, to commission key state projects. That visit has now been rescheduled for Thursday, June 19, 2025, according to an updated itinerary.

The President’s decision is seen as part of his administration’s broader commitment to restoring security and stability across the country.
