TINUBU, SHETTIMA, WORLD LEADERS ATTEND BUHARI’S BURIAL IN DAURA

Former President Muhammadu Buhari was laid to rest on Tuesday at his private residence in Daura, Katsina State, drawing a wave of tributes from dignitaries across Nigeria and beyond.

The body of the late president, who passed away in London, arrived at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport, Katsina, in the afternoon before being conveyed in a somber motorcade to his hometown, where residents had lined the streets to bid him a final farewell.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led the delegation of mourners, alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima. Others present included the President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló; Niger Republic’s Prime Minister, Ali Lamine Zeine; former President of Niger, Issoufou Mahamadou; and Nigeria’s former Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

The funeral rites began with a lying-in-state at the Daura residence, after which the Salatul Janazah (funeral prayer) was conducted by the Imam of the Central Mosque, Sheikh Salisu Rabiu. The interment was witnessed by President Tinubu and members of the late president’s immediate family at about 5:50 p.m.

The state funeral was marked with full military honours, including a 21-gun salute and a reveille. According to the presidency, a weeklong series of events in honour of the former leader will follow, beginning with a condolence visit to the Buhari family by a Presidential Committee later in the day.
