The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his role in brokering peace between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
The council, in a statement issued by its president, Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, described the President’s intervention as timely and commendable, noting that it helped de-escalate political tensions that had threatened governance in the oil-rich state.
According to NYCN, the move demonstrates Tinubu’s commitment to national unity, democratic stability, and the protection of key economic regions from political disruption.
“Rivers State is too strategic to Nigeria’s economic stability to be engulfed in prolonged political unrest,” the statement read. “President Tinubu’s statesmanship has restored calm and repositioned the state on the path of growth and development.”
The group also urged the President to consolidate the peace process by ensuring the full reinstatement and recognition of Governor Fubara’s executive authority, adding that such a move would reinforce good governance and enhance youth-focused development programmes across the state.
