The Ondo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Akure on Tuesday upheld the victory of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa in the November 2024 governorship election.
The three-member panel, led by Justice Benson Ogubu, dismissed petitions filed by five political parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Mr. Agboola Ajayi, for lack of merit.
Delivering judgment, Justice Ogubu held that the petitioners failed to substantiate claims of electoral malpractice, non-compliance with the Electoral Act, and allegations of overvoting.
The tribunal ruled that the Independent National Electoral Commission conducted the election in substantial compliance with the law, and the votes credited to Aiyedatiwa and the All Progressives Congress were valid.
Reacting to the judgment, Aiyedatiwa expressed gratitude to the judiciary and the people of Ondo State, reiterating his commitment to good governance, peace, and development.
The ruling effectively lays to rest legal battles surrounding the election, clearing the path for Aiyedatiwa to continue his administration’s agenda.
