UNIMED’s First Female VC, Prof. Adejuyigbe, Assumes Office Amid Reforms

Professor Ebunoluwa Aderonke Adejuyigbe on Wednesday officially took over as the new Vice-Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo (UNIMED), becoming the first woman to hold the position since the institution was established.

Her resumption comes shortly after the Ondo State Government released a white paper based on the recommendations of the Visitation Panel submitted to the university’s Visitor, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.

A professor of paediatrics and native of Akoko North East LGA, Adejuyigbe comes into the role with an impressive academic and administrative pedigree. Until her appointment, she served as the Executive Director of the Central Office of Research at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, and also as a consultant paediatrician at the OAU Teaching Hospital.

She is a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Medicine and a former Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, OAU. Adejuyigbe also currently serves as the Vice-President of the African Society of Paediatric Infectious Diseases and Co-Chair of Nigeria’s National Child Health Technical Working Committee.

Her appointment, which was made public on March 7, 2025, followed the recommendation of the university’s Governing Council and received the approval of the state government.

Adejuyigbe becomes the third substantive and first female Vice-Chancellor of the specialised medical university.
