WE CAN NO LONGER GO TO FARM”— ONDO COMMUNITIES STORM AKURE OVER HERDSMEN ATTACKS

Residents of Ilado, Imafon and Igunshin communities in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State on Saturday took to the streets in protest over what they described as persistent killings and kidnappings allegedly linked to suspected herdsmen.

The aggrieved residents, numbering in their hundreds, marched to the Alagbaka axis of Akure, chanting solidarity songs and carrying leaves as they demanded urgent intervention from security agencies and Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.

The protest led to serious traffic disruption around the Oda–Igbatoro–Alagbaka corridor, as demonstrators blocked key roads for over an hour, paralysing vehicular movement in the area.

The protesters alleged that insecurity in their communities had reached alarming levels, claiming that several lives had been lost within a short period, while many residents now live in fear.

Some of the demonstrators who spoke with Rooted Scope Media said farming activities had been abandoned due to fear of attacks, adding that nights had become particularly unsafe.

They called on the state government and security operatives to intensify protection of lives and property in the affected communities, urging swift and decisive action to restore normalcy.

Security agencies are yet to issue statements on the latest protest, but there have been repeated assurances of efforts to curb the rising incidents in the area.
