Wike, Fubara, Amaewhule Make Public Appearance After Tinubu-Brokered Peace

In what appears to be a major step toward reconciliation, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara; Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; and the embattled Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, made a joint public appearance on Saturday — just two days after President Bola Tinubu hosted a fresh round of peace talks at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The trio, who have been embroiled in a prolonged political crisis threatening governance in the oil-rich state, attended a funeral service in Rumueprikom, Wike’s hometown in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

Their presence at the event, coming so soon after the Abuja meeting, is seen by political observers as a potential thaw in the frosty relations that have divided the Rivers political landscape for nearly two years.

Also spotted at the well-attended service were key political figures including Senators Allwell Onyesoh, George Thompson Sekibo, and Olaka Nwogu; former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Chibudom Nwuche; former lawmaker, Hon. Ken Chikere; South-South APC chieftain, Victor Giadom; and former PDP Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Sam Sam Jaja.

Although none of the key actors addressed the media at the event, their public appearance together — after months of political brinkmanship — is being interpreted as a sign that the Tinubu-led intervention may be gaining traction.

Political watchers say while the road to full reconciliation remains uncertain, Saturday’s outing could be the beginning of a new chapter in the Rivers political saga.
