The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has given the nod to the College of Health Sciences at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), clearing the institution to proceed with its medical training.
The approval allows the university to continue running its Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, said the feat followed sustained efforts by the management to meet the council’s requirements in infrastructure and manpower for the accreditation.
She reaffirmed the institution’s resolve to uphold quality standards in medical education and ensure full compliance with regulatory guidelines to strengthen the college.
Oladiji also acknowledged the support of the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, for rallying stakeholders to contribute to the growth of the programme, including the provision of modern laboratories and student accommodation.
The MDCN team, led by Deputy Registrar Dr Nnameka Nwakanma, granted the approval during a visit to the university.
The council equally fixed 100 as the admission quota for medical students.
Nwakanma expressed satisfaction with the university’s readiness, noting that its facilities and preparations aligned with expected standards.

Also reacting, the Chief Medical Director of the FUTA Teaching Hospital, Prof. Olusegun Ojo, described the development as a major milestone, saying it would boost students’ confidence and advance the institution’s medical training capacity.
