At least 21 athletes and officials from Kano State who had just returned from the National Sports Festival in Ogun State have died in a ghastly motor accident.
The tragic incident occurred around 8 a.m. on Saturday at the Daka Tsalle Bridge in Garun Malam Local Government Area of the state.
Eyewitnesses said the ill-fated bus conveying the victims hit a pothole at high speed, causing it to somersault multiple times before coming to a halt.
Authorities are yet to release the identities of the deceased as efforts continue to account for all passengers and provide medical attention to the injured.
The incident has plunged the sporting community and the entire Kano State into mourning, with tributes already pouring in for the departed.
