Ministry of Foreign Affairs Warns Public Against Fake Social Media Account

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a stern warning to the public over the emergence of fraudulent social media accounts impersonating its officials to spread false information and perpetrate scams.

In a statement released yesterday, the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, revealed that a fake Facebook account posing as the Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Dunoma Ahmed, has recently surfaced.

According to Ebienfa, the counterfeit account has been used to circulate misinformation, offer bogus contracts, solicit financial assistance, and lure unsuspecting individuals with fake rewards.

The Ministry emphasized that Ambassador Dunoma Ahmed does not own or operate any personal or official social media profiles. It strongly disassociates itself from the fraudulent page and cautioned the public to disregard any communication from the fake account.

The Ministry further advised Nigerians to avoid engaging with individuals or groups behind such scams and encouraged them to report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.

Ebienfa also disclosed that the Ministry is working closely with security agencies and Meta, Facebook’s parent company, to take down the impersonating account.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to transparency, integrity, and the protection of citizens from online fraud.
