Tinubu Brokers Peace as Wike, Fubara, and Rivers Assembly Speaker Reach Truce

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday intervened in the lingering political crisis rocking Rivers State, securing a truce among the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara; and the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The peace accord followed a high-level meeting held behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Although the full terms of the agreement have not been officially disclosed, reliable sources at the meeting confirmed that the warring factions agreed to put their differences aside and work towards political stability in the oil-rich state.

The Rivers political crisis, which has pitched Fubara against his predecessor and political godfather, Wike, has led to a series of confrontations involving the state legislature and local governance structures.

Thursday’s meeting was said to have been tense but constructive, with President Tinubu urging the parties to embrace peace in the overriding interest of the state and the nation.

Efforts to get official statements from the parties involved were unsuccessful as of press time.
