Chief Reuben Fasoranti at 99: A Pillar of Yoruba Civilization – Gov Aiyedatiwa

Ondo State Governor, H.E. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has described Chief Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti as a symbol of integrity, patriotism, and selfless service.

Speaking at the Chief Reuben Fasoranti Public Service Lecture in Akure to mark Fasoranti’s 99th birthday, Governor Aiyedatiwa said the elder statesman embodies Yoruba Omoluabi values.

“We are celebrating a life of service, courage, and devotion to humanity,” the governor said.

The event, organised by the University of Ibadan Alumni Association (Ondo Chapter), was titled: “Wanted: A Strong and United Yoruba Race as Panacea for Reviving the Vanishing Yoruba Values and Culture.”

Governor Aiyedatiwa stressed the need to preserve Yoruba culture through youth engagement, cultural education, and intergenerational dialogue. “We remain committed to initiatives that promote Yoruba heritage,” he added.

H.E. Otunba Gbenga Daniel, the keynote speaker and former Ogun State Governor, emphasized unity among the Yoruba to protect their identity and values. He commended Fasoranti for his consistent advocacy for justice and development.

UIAA Chairman, Mr. Yinka Akinola, praised Fasoranti as a model of academic excellence and moral strength. Basorun Seinde Arogbofa noted that the Yoruba identity has survived due to leaders like Fasoranti.

UI Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Adebowale (represented by Registrar Mr. G.O. Saliu), said icons like Fasoranti uphold societal ideals. Prof. Williams Aderounmu called for global recognition of Fasoranti’s impact.

The Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, highlighted Fasoranti’s role in preserving Yoruba values, especially through his service under former Governor Adekunle Ajasin.

Notable attendees included former Governor Olusegun Mimiko, SSG Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, Chief of Staff Prince Segun Omojuwa, and the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi.
