The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to urgently tackle the alarming rise of “one chance” crimes in Abuja, warning that the situation has become a security emergency requiring immediate intervention.
The appeal comes in the wake of the shocking murders of two professionals on the same day — Chinemerem Chuwumeziem, a nurse at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, and Princess Chigbo, a lawyer and former treasurer of the NBA Abuja branch. Both victims were reportedly attacked by suspected “one chance” robbers, with their bodies discovered at separate locations across the FCT.
Speaking on Thursday, NBA President Afam Osigwe described the victims as law-abiding citizens whose only intention was to return home safely. He urged the FCT Administration to bolster security, enhance intelligence-led policing, and take decisive action to curb criminal activities in the nation’s capital.
