The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) Joint Task Force North West has launched a fresh military offensive, codenamed Operation Clean Sweep III, in parts of Katsina State following the abduction and killing of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar by suspected bandits.
The operation, which commenced on Sunday, June 14, 2026, is targeted at tracking down and neutralising those responsible for the retired general’s abduction and subsequent death in captivity, as well as dismantling criminal networks operating within the affected areas.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North West under Operation Fansan Yamma, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, troops have intensified offensive operations across Matazu Local Government Area and adjoining communities.
He disclosed that personnel involved in the operation have conducted aggressive fighting patrols, intelligence-led raids, cordon-and-search missions, and clearance operations in identified bandits’ enclaves.
The DHQ further revealed that notable successes had been recorded in the Dikkawa Hills, Adua, Nasarawa and Karaduwa axis, where troops destroyed several terrorist camps, logistics bases and other support infrastructure used by the criminal elements.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and security in the North-West region, assuring residents that ongoing operations would be sustained until the perpetrators are brought to justice.
