A Federal High Court in Abuja has removed the member representing Owo/Ose Federal Constituency of Ondo State, Timehin Adeleye, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election.
In a judgment delivered on Wednesday, Justice Peter Lifu declared Abdugani Arobo the rightful winner of the APC primary and ordered the party to recognise him as its candidate.
Adeleye’s name had earlier been forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by the APC National Working Committee, a decision that sparked protests from some party members and leaders in Ondo State. Arobo subsequently challenged the nomination in court.
The court ruled that the APC failed to make a lawful return from the primary election, noting that the party’s evidence was riddled with inconsistencies.
Justice Lifu held that Arobo lawfully won the primary after polling 7,959 votes in Owo Local Government Area and 2,583 votes in Ose Local Government Area. The court ordered the APC to recognise only Arobo as its candidate and restrained the party from presenting or dealing with any other person as the winner of the primary.
The judge also directed INEC to reopen its nomination portal to upload Arobo’s name as the APC’s duly nominated candidate for the Owo/Ose Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general election.
