His Excellency, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, PhD (Cantab), CFR, has formally presented his letter of credence to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, officially signaling his accreditation as the Permanent Representative Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the United Nations.

In a ceremony which took place at the UN Secretariat in New York on April 20, 2026, Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim completed all formal diplomatic processes marking his assumption of duty at the global body.

With the presentation of credentials, the Nigerian envoy is now fully recognised to represent the country in multilateral engagements, negotiations, and deliberations at the United Nations.

H. E. Jimoh Ibrahim is an indigene of Igbotako in Okitipupa LGA, Ondo State, a Nigerian foremost businessman, lawyer, academic, and politician, who served as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Cambridge and has been involved in business leadership, governance, and policy engagement over the years. He is also a recipient of the national honour of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR).

Following his accreditation, expectations are high that the new Permanent Representative will strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic presence at the United Nations, advance the country’s positions on global peace and security, and deepen engagement on development priorities, including economic cooperation, climate action, and international partnerships.
