2027 ELECTION: NDC CLEARS OBI FOR PRESIDENTIAL RACE

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has been cleared to contest the presidential primary of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general election.

The clearance was announced by the Chairman of the NDC National Screening Committee, Sam Egwu, in a video shared on the party’s official X handle on Wednesday, following a screening exercise held in Abuja on Tuesday.

Egwu said the committee found Obi qualified after reviewing his credentials and confirming compliance with constitutional and statutory provisions guiding eligibility for presidential aspirants.

He explained that Obi met the requirements of the party constitution, the Electoral Act, and the 1999 Constitution (as amended), and also satisfactorily responded to questions posed by the panel during the screening.

Egwu further stated that Obi had been cleared to participate in the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for a date to be announced.

Reacting via his official X account, Obi said the screening exercise lasted over two and a half hours, during which the committee assessed his credentials and engaged him on his vision for Nigeria.
