TUC Pickets Finance Ministry Over Unpaid Allowances

Abuja – The premises of the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja were brought to a standstill on Monday as members of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) staged a protest over the non-payment of allowances and other emoluments.

Dressed in red T-shirts, the aggrieved workers locked the main entrance gate of the ministry, effectively halting all vehicular movement in and out of the complex.

The protest, which drew the attention of passersby and security personnel, is part of a nationwide agitation by the TUC demanding the immediate settlement of long-overdue arrears and improved welfare for public sector workers.

Placards with inscriptions such as “Pay Our Arrears Now” and “Workers Deserve Better” were seen held high by the protesting staff, who vowed to sustain the picketing until their demands are addressed by the government.
