Dr. Seun Osamaye: ‘No Social Welfare Without Health’ – ORANGHIS a Vital Partner

Akure, Nigeria – In alignment with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s Our Ease Agenda, the Ondo State Government is intensifying efforts to bring healthcare services closer to the people, driven by the Ondo State Contributory Health Commission (ODCHC).

Speaking at a strategic workshop held at Heritage Hotels in Akure, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs, Dr. Seun Bosede Osamaye, commended the Commission’s commitment to achieving universal health coverage under the leadership of its Director General, Dr. Abiodun Oyeneyin.

The workshop brought together key health stakeholders, including Dr. Adiji, Permanent Secretary of the Hospitals Management Board, and Dr. Dipo Ikuomola, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health. Discussions centered on strengthening three of the Commission’s flagship health initiatives:

ORANGHIS – Orange Health Insurance Scheme
ABIYAMO – Maternal and child health-focused programme
BHCPFP – Basic Healthcare Provision Fund Programme

Dr. Osamaye described ORANGHIS as a cornerstone of the state’s healthcare framework. For the formal sector, the scheme covers civil servants, political appointees, their spouses, and up to four children under the age of 18. She noted that the scheme is now being extended to the informal sector, which constitutes about 94% of the state’s population—approximately 5.2 million residents.

She also underscored the significance of the Vulnerable Population Program (VPP), a subcomponent of ORANGHIS that provides free healthcare services to indigent and marginalized groups.

“As a Ministry, we cannot fulfill our social welfare responsibilities without ensuring access to healthcare. The ODCHC remains a vital partner in improving the lives of women and children in Ondo State,” she said.

Dr. Osamaye praised Dr. Oyeneyin and his team for their innovation and unwavering dedication, stating that health is fundamental to the well-being and productivity of every community.

“As we always say, health is wealth—and through ORANGHIS, we are making healthcare available, affordable, and accessible to all,” she concluded.
