The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has announced the appointment of Dr. George Elombi as its incoming President and Chairman of the Board of Directors, with effect from September 2025.
Dr. Elombi, a Cameroonian and long-serving executive at the bank, will take over from Prof. Benedict Oramah, who has led the institution since 2015. Elombi currently serves as Executive Vice President in charge of Governance, Legal and Corporate Services.
Afreximbank, in a statement issued on Saturday, said Elombi’s appointment reflects his longstanding contribution to the bank’s growth, including the development of its legal and institutional frameworks, capital expansion, and crisis response strategies across the African continent and the Caribbean.
Having joined Afreximbank in 1996, Dr. Elombi is regarded as a key figure in the bank’s evolution and is expected to bring continuity and strategic insight to its leadership.
