Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a patriot whose legacy will continue to resonate in the nation’s political history.
Reacting to the news of the former president’s demise, which broke earlier in the day, Governor Aiyedatiwa said the development was painful, yet a reminder of the divine reality that life belongs to God who gives and takes.
“I am grieved by the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari. However, our faith in the Almighty remains firm,” he said.
The Governor extended heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the late Nigerian leader, including his widow, children, grandchildren, and other relatives, acknowledging Buhari’s remarkable contributions both as a father and statesman.
He also sympathised with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the loss of his predecessor, Governor Dikko Umar Radda of Katsina State, the government and people of Katsina, as well as members of the All Progressives Congress and Nigerians at large.
Recalling his last meeting with Buhari during a visit to Sokoto three months ago, Aiyedatiwa described the former president as a man of deep character—firm, honest, humorous and driven by a sense of integrity.
“Even in tough moments, he had the ability to lift the mood with his disarming humour. He was never afraid to speak his mind and remained content, prudent, and courageous to the very end,” he said.
Governor Aiyedatiwa prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the departed leader and asked that he be granted Aljanah Firdaus.
“Farewell to a great General, an outstanding leader and a true patriot,” he concluded.
