Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, has emerged as the overall winner in the nationwide Staff and Faculty Publication Competition organized by the Committee of Deans of Engineering and Technology (CODET), sealing its position among Nigeria’s leading research-driven institutions.
The award, conferred during the 33rd Engineering Assembly of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, from July 14 to 16, 2025, recognized the university’s groundbreaking research contribution in the field of renewable energy.
The winning entry, led by Engr. Dr. Oluwasanmi Alonge from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, focused on thermal analysis in multi-layer solar photovoltaic modules. Titled “Probing Thermal Dynamics in Multi-layer Solar Photovoltaic Modules: Unveiling Hotspots and Advancing Innovative Strategies,” the study was conducted in collaboration with international researchers from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia.

Published in the Solar Energy journal under ScienceDirect, the research combines theoretical, numerical, and experimental methodologies to address the persistent challenge of thermal hotspots in PV modules—advancing the drive toward more efficient solar technologies. The study aligns with global efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 7 on affordable and clean energy.
Reacting to the development, Engr. Dr. Alonge described the award as a testament to Elizade University’s focus on impactful research and international collaboration in addressing global energy concerns.
In his remarks, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babatunde Adeyemo, applauded the research team for bringing prestige to the university, noting that the award reflects Elizade’s rising profile in innovation, academic excellence, and global competitiveness.
With this achievement, Elizade University further cements its status as a centre of excellence in engineering and applied sciences, contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s and the world’s sustainable energy future.
