SOKOTO GOVT SUSPENDS PRIMARY HEALTH CARE BOSS, APPOINTS ACTING EXECUTIVE SECRETARY

The Sokoto State Government has suspended the Executive Secretary of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Larai Aliyu Tambuwal.

The suspension, approved by Governor Ahmed Aliyu, was contained in a letter dated October 2, 2025, and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Ibrahim Haliru Dingyadi.

The government directed Dr. Bilyaminu Sifawa to immediately take over as Acting Executive Secretary of the agency.

While the letter did not state reasons for Tambuwal’s suspension, the decision marks a major shake-up in the leadership of the state’s health sector.

The Primary Health Care Development Agency is central to improving access to quality health services in Sokoto, particularly in rural communities, and oversees immunisation and other grassroots health programmes.

Analysts say the leadership change could have implications for ongoing health initiatives across the state.
