FUTA DON URGES USE OF GRAPHIC DESIGN AS A TOOL FOR HUMAN TRANSFORMATION

Professor Emmanuel Bankole Oladumiye, an expert in Graphic Design and Advertising, has called for the strategic use of graphic design as a tool for human transformation and societal development.

He delivered the 187th inaugural lecture of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, titled “Graphic Design: Catalyst for Human Transformation and Development – From Darkness to Light.”

Professor Oladumiye highlighted the critical role of graphic design in shaping perceptions, influencing behavior, and promoting sustainable development. He said design goes beyond aesthetics, serving as a powerful medium to communicate ideas, solve societal challenges, and drive positive change.

During the lecture, he cited local and international examples, demonstrating how innovative design solutions have transformed businesses, education, health campaigns, and public policy initiatives. He urged students and professionals to embrace creativity, ethical practices, and social responsibility to ensure design contributes meaningfully to human progress.

In attendance were FUTA’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adenike Temidayo Oladiji, who also doubled as the inaugural lecture chairman, top faculty members, students, and invited guests. It provided a platform for knowledge exchange and reinforced FUTA’s commitment to fostering intellectual growth and innovation across disciplines.

Professor Oladumiye concluded by urging graphic designers to view their craft not just as a career, but as a tool to enlighten minds, inspire change, and contribute to national development.
