FAYOSE AND OBASANJO IN WAR OF WORDS OVER BIRTHDAY CEREMONY REMARKS

A fresh political drama unfolded on Monday as former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, sharply criticised ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo over comments allegedly made during Fayose’s recent birthday celebration.

Fayose, in a strongly worded message, accused the former President of making “irresponsible” remarks at the event, adding that Obasanjo’s conduct was unbecoming of a statesman. He further demanded the return of a monetary gift he said the former President acknowledged receiving.

The former governor did not mince words, alleging that Obasanjo’s comments reflected a decline in judgment. He said he refrained from responding publicly at the venue to avoid what he described as an exchange between “a sane man and a mad man”.

He also vowed to address the incident more comprehensively at a later time, insisting that Obasanjo should return the cash gift delivered to him.

In a swift response, Obasanjo dismissed Fayose’s outburst, saying the former governor’s message only confirmed “who and what” he had always been. The ex-President added that the money in question had already been returned through the same intermediary who delivered it, noting that the envelope was never opened.

The exchange has sparked heated reactions across political circles, with observers describing the altercation as another chapter in the long, rocky relationship between the two political figures.
