The Vice Chancellor of Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, has charged the newly inaugurated Student Union Government (SUG) leaders to view leadership as a noble call to responsibility.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Comrade James Friday-led executive on Monday, 24 November 2025, Prof. Popoola said, “Leadership is a noble call to responsibility, and I am confident that you will discharge your duties with integrity, vision, and commitment.”
The VC described the students’ union as a key partner in promoting student welfare, peace, unity, and academic excellence. He urged the new leaders to be diligent, inclusive, and committed to the diverse needs of students. He also encouraged virtues of humility, transparency, accountability, and selfless service, adding: “Engage constructively, listen effectively, and ensure every student feels seen, heard, and represented.”
Prof. Popoola further appealed to all students to support the new administration, noting that unionism is about service, not personal gain, and warned that actions undermining the dignity of the union would not be condoned.
In her welcome address, Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. (Mrs.) Justina Ogboru, praised the outgoing SUG President, Comrade Aniefiok Gideon, and his team for their contributions, while urging the incoming leaders to focus on service and leave a lasting positive impact.
Comrade James Friday, the new SUG President, promised to continue from where his predecessor left off, prioritising academic welfare, collaborations, educational social activities, and entrepreneurship programs. The outgoing president thanked management, students, and his team for their support.

Goodwill messages were delivered by representatives of AFUED chapters of ASUU, SSANU, NASU, and NAAT. The event held at Babatunde Ipaye Lecture Theatre was attended by university officials, staff, students, and parents, including Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Ireti Folasade Alao, University Librarian Dr. Azino Akpokurerie, and the VC’s wife, Dr. (Mrs.) C.J. Popoola.
