The Ondo State Police Command has arrested six persons over an alleged plot to bomb government facilities in Akure, the state capital.
The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, disclosed this on Thursday while briefing journalists, adding that a total of 16 suspects were taken into custody across different operations in the state.
According to him, six of the suspects were linked to the alleged bombing conspiracy, while the remaining 10 were arrested for cult-related offences.
Lawal said the command had “recorded a major operational breakthrough” following the disruption of what he described as a planned attack in Akure.
He explained that acting on credible intelligence, operatives tracked and arrested the suspects before they could carry out the alleged plan. He added that a search of their location and a follow-up operation at their residence led to the recovery of several items believed to be connected to the suspected activities.
Recovered materials included 217 bottles, a bag of sugar, suspected charms, 17 mobile phones, ₦187,000 in cash, two laptops, eight slings, a knife, an external hard drive, identity documents, including a National Identification Number card, and two motorcycles.
The police commissioner said preliminary findings indicated that the suspects were allegedly involved in assembling improvised explosive devices targeted at government infrastructure.
He further disclosed that the group had recently rented an apartment in the Oke-Odu area of Akure, which was allegedly used as their operational base.
Lawal also said intelligence reports suggested that a document containing possible targets had been recovered, pointing to what he described as a coordinated and premeditated plan.

He said the timely intervention of the police prevented what could have resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property.
The arrests come amid growing security concerns in Ondo State, where residents in some communities have recently staged protests over rising cases of kidnapping and violent crimes.
