The Police Service Commission (PSC) has condemned the extrajudicial killing of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi by officers attached to the Effurun Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force in Delta State.
Ogidi was reportedly killed on April 26, 2026, in an incident the Commission described as a violation of extant national laws and international human rights standards.
In a statement on Wednesday, the PSC said the act contravenes provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Anti-Torture Act 2017, the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015, the Nigeria Police Act 2020, and the Nigeria Police Force Regulations 2025.
The Commission commended the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, for initiating disciplinary measures against the officers involved, including their suspension and interdiction, pending a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
It further assured that all officers found culpable would be held accountable in line with the law.
The PSC also extended condolences to the family of the deceased and urged members of the public to remain calm, assuring that justice would be duly served.
