The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Adetunji Adene, was reportedly attacked by a group of suspected thugs at his residence.
Sources said the assailants, believed to be about 20 in number, stormed his home shortly after he returned from an official engagement in Akure.
Residents in the area said the attackers were prevented from carrying out further harm after family members and neighbours raised an alarm, forcing them to flee.
Adene was said to have suffered serious injuries during the assault and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Owo, where he is currently receiving medical attention.
The attack has generated widespread concern among labour leaders in the state, with the Ondo State Chairman of NULGE, Fredrick Akinrinlola, condemning the incident.
Akinrinlola described the assault as a dangerous development and an attack on the local government workforce, warning against rising threats to union leaders in Owo.
He called on security agencies to urgently investigate the matter, apprehend those responsible, and ensure justice is served.
The union leadership also expressed fears over increasing insecurity and intimidation targeting labour officials, stressing that such violence could threaten the stability of local government administration in the area.
