Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) platform.
Makinde made the declaration on Wednesday at a political rally held at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing supporters, the governor said: “I, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, hereby announce my candidacy for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
The governor had earlier led the Taminu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State into a Memorandum of Understanding with the APM, in what is described as a strategic alliance ahead of the polls.
Under the arrangement, candidates of the PDP faction for governorship, National Assembly and State Assembly positions are expected to contest under the APM platform in the 2027 elections.

The agreement was formally signed by Makinde and the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle.
Further details are expected to emerge.
