Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the appointment of Prof. Tomola Marshal Obamuyi as the new Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko.
The appointment followed the recommendation of the university’s Governing Council after a competitive selection process involving 15 candidates.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, Obamuyi emerged as the leading candidate during interviews conducted by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board of the institution.
He will succeed Prof. Olugbenga Ige as the chief executive officer of the state-owned university.
A renowned scholar in Banking and Finance, Obamuyi has held several leadership positions in the academic sector. He previously served as Head of the Department of Banking and Finance at AAUA and was the pioneer substantive Dean of the School of Management Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure.
The statement noted that the professor has also participated in academic accreditation exercises and higher education review panels across Africa, in addition to presenting research papers at conferences in Europe, North America, Asia, and Africa.
Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence that the new Vice-Chancellor possesses the experience and leadership qualities required to advance the institution’s academic and developmental goals.
The governor charged him to uphold the university’s core values and promote a culture of innovation, peace, and collaboration among staff, students, and other stakeholders.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the university in its quest to remain one of Nigeria’s leading state-owned institutions.
