NIGERIA LOSES A RARE GIANT IN FASORANTI, SAYS AYEBUSIWA

Chairman of the standing committee on Tertiary Institutions and member representing Okitipupa Constituency I in the Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon. Odunayo Chris Ayebusiwa, has said Nigeria lost a rare giant in the late statesman and Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti.

Pa Fasoranti, who died on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at the age of 100, devoted much of his life to education, public service and the promotion of democratic ideals.

The late elder statesman, a former Commissioner for Finance in the old Ondo State and National Leader of Afenifere, was widely respected for his courage, integrity and commitment to good governance.

His association with the progressive political tradition of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and his years of advocacy for justice, equity and good governance earned him a place among the respected voices in Nigeria’s political history.

Ayebusiwa said Fasoranti’s death was a painful loss, particularly to the Yoruba people, whose political and cultural development he served for decades.

He extended his condolences to the Fasoranti family, Afenifere, the people of Akure, the Ondo State Government and all those mourning the departed leader.

The lawmaker prayed to God to comfort the family and grant them the strength to bear the loss.

He also expressed hope that the values Pa Fasoranti stood for, including integrity, selfless service and commitment to the common good, would continue to guide younger generations.

Although his death marks the end of a remarkable life, Ayebusiwa said the late elder statesman’s contributions to education, public service and democratic development would remain a lasting part of his legacy.
