Ondo PDP Criticizes Aiyedatiwa’s Road Project

The Ondo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken note of what it perceives as a self-serving agenda behind Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s recent commencement of a 10 km road project from Oke Aro Junction to Idanre, while a similar project, the Ijoka Road to Idanre, remains unfinished.

While the flag-off of a new road project might seem beneficial to the public, our Party believes this move is, in fact, driven by the Governor’s self-interest. We believe the abandoned Ijoka road project no longer serves the Governor’s financial interests, leading to the initiation of a new project that can accommodate his personal financial gains.

We challenge Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to publicly explain his reasons for abandoning the Ijoka road project, which also links Akure to Idanre, and instead launching a new road with similar objectives. He should also clarify why the residents and users of the Ijoka road axis should continue to endure hardship, facing daily difficulties while traveling through that area.

The party is deeply concerned about the potential misallocation of several billions of taxpayers’ money. We believe these funds may be diverted under the guise of constructing a new road, when a portion could be used to complete the ongoing Ijoka road project, which would serve the same purpose. The remaining funds could be allocated to complete other nearly abandoned road projects within the State.

If there is an urgent need in that Idanre axis, possibly for political reasons, the Governor should have considered starting the new road construction from Idanre to Ofosu, where the substantial investment could yield greater value. The Idanre-Ofosu road project would boost economic activities in those areas and enhance connectivity to the Benin-Ore-Lagos expressway.

Our Party urges the Governor to prioritize the welfare and security of the people in his governance.

We further advise that all existing road projects initiated by his predecessor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, be completed. We urge him to avoid embarking on projects that appear to be for personal enrichment but are deceptively presented as public initiatives.
