AMNESTY INTL. CONDEMNS ALLEGED VIOLENT REMARKS BY SENATOR FADAHUNSI

Amnesty International has condemned alleged violent comments by Senator Francis Fadahunsi of the All Progressives Congress, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

Fadahunsi was allegedly captured on video at a campaign rally instructing his supporters to kill members of the Accord Party.

Reacting to the alleged remarks, Amnesty International described them as reckless and deliberate, warning that they could fuel violence and threaten the peaceful conduct of the election.

The organisation said the Nigerian government has a duty to prohibit advocacy of hatred that amounts to incitement to hostility, discrimination or violence.

It urged authorities to promptly condemn statements made publicly, online or through other platforms that promote or encourage violence.

Amnesty International also called for Fadahunsi to be held accountable over the alleged comments.
