The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has extended the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Food Outreach Scheme to Ondo State, with vulnerable groups benefiting from the distribution of food items at the International Culture and Event Centre (The Dome), Akure.
Represented by the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, Mrs. Tinubu said the intervention was part of the Renewed Hope Initiative’s commitment to supporting vulnerable Nigerians, addressing food insecurity and improving child nutrition.
She explained that the Food Outreach Scheme, launched in March 2024, was designed to provide food support to persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups, while strengthening community support systems.
According to her, the programme was made possible through the support of donors who provide food items monthly to the Renewed Hope Initiative, enabling different states to benefit from the intervention.
She identified the Abdulsamad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) as one of the major donors supporting the initiative, noting that the food consignment delivered to Ondo State was provided by the organisation.
Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, described the intervention as a reflection of the Federal Government’s commitment to reducing poverty and supporting vulnerable citizens.
The governor said the programme went beyond food distribution, describing it as a demonstration of compassion, solidarity and a shared commitment to improving the lives of less privileged Nigerians.
He commended the Renewed Hope Initiative and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for supporting programmes aimed at addressing poverty and improving the welfare of citizens.
Governor Aiyedatiwa also praised his wife, Mrs. Oluwaseun Esther Aiyedatiwa, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Seun Osamaye, and other stakeholders for their roles in ensuring the success of the outreach.
He reaffirmed the Ondo State Government’s commitment to supporting programmes that promote food security, social investment and the well-being of residents.
The governor noted that the initiative aligns with his administration’s “OUR EASE” Development Agenda, particularly its focus on improving the welfare and resilience of women, children and families.
In her remarks, Mrs. Esther Aiyedatiwa described the outreach as a demonstration of compassionate leadership, adding that it was not only about distributing food items but also about restoring dignity and providing support to vulnerable residents.
The Managing Director of the Abdulsamad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), Dr. Ubin Udoh, said the organisation was proud to partner with the Renewed Hope Initiative in providing relief and supporting community development.
The event was attended by government officials, traditional and religious leaders, security chiefs, members of the State Executive Council, members of the Ondo State House of Assembly, local government chairmen and other stakeholders.
