Hon. Simisola Fajemirokun-Ajayi has called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), security agencies, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to safeguard the integrity of the party’s primary election in Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo and Odigbo Federal Constituency of Ondo State.
She commended party members and supporters who turned out peacefully to exercise their franchise, despite what she described as intimidation, pressure, and attempts to suppress the will of the people.
Verified polling unit results collated by party agents across the constituency indicated that Fajemirokun-Ajayi recorded significant support, particularly in Odigbo Local Government Area, the largest voting bloc in the constituency.
The figures released showed:
- Simisola Fajemirokun-Ajayi – 4,247 votes
- Matthew Oye Oyerinmade – 1,790 votes
- Festus Adefiranye – 788 votes
She was also said to have won in several wards across Odigbo, including Agbabu, Ago-Alaye, Ajue, Araromi Obu, Ebijaw, Koseru, Odigbo, Ore I and Ore II.
However, reports from parts of the constituency alleged incidents of disruption, absence of electoral officials in some polling areas, interference with voting lines, and other irregularities that reportedly marred the exercise.
There were also allegations concerning the involvement of some aides and associates linked to the Ondo State Government, described by stakeholders as capable of undermining the credibility of the party’s internal democratic process if not addressed.
Fajemirokun-Ajayi insisted that democracy must not be compromised by intimidation or political interference, urging the APC national leadership and President Tinubu to protect ordinary party members, including women, youths, and minority voices.
She reaffirmed that women have a rightful place in politics and leadership, stressing that the will of the people must remain sacrosanct in any democratic process.
