The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that the voting pattern in the nation’s capital is gradually tilting in favour of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, attributing the shift to ongoing infrastructure development across the territory.
Wike, who spoke on Tuesday after inspecting several ongoing projects in Abuja, said the scale of development currently being executed in both the city centre and rural communities would translate into stronger political support for the President.
He noted that residents were increasingly responding positively to what he described as visible governance and delivery of infrastructure projects across the FCT.
The minister pointed to the outcome of the February 21 Area Council elections, where the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured five out of six chairmanship positions, as an indication of a changing political trend in the territory.
According to him, the result reflected growing appreciation of government performance by residents across the area councils.
Wike said the Tinubu administration’s focus on roads, water, electricity and other basic infrastructure in satellite towns and rural communities was reshaping public perception.
He argued that citizens were more concerned about tangible development than political rhetoric.
“What reason would people have not to support Mr. President now? This is the first time many rural communities are seeing this level of development,” he said.
The FCT Minister also recalled the President’s visit to Kwali Area Council for the inauguration of the A2-Pai Road, describing it as historic, being the first time a sitting President would commission a project in such a rural setting within the territory.
He assured that more projects would soon be completed and inaugurated across different parts of the capital.
On project inspection, Wike expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work, adding that several of them would be ready for commissioning before the President’s third anniversary in office.
He disclosed that the Court of Appeal Complex in Dakibiyu was about 70 per cent completed, while the Judges’ Quarters in Katampe was nearing completion.
He added that the Collector Road CN2 in Katampe was almost finished, with contractors currently handling walkways and streetlight installations.
According to him, similar progress had been recorded on the Gaduwa District road, where streetlights, road markings and other finishing works were ongoing.
At the Wasa relocation site for the Apo Mechanic Village, Wike said road infrastructure and streetlights had been completed, while water connection remained outstanding.
He further said security agencies had been mobilised to commence work on a police station and residential quarters within the area.
Wike maintained that the ongoing projects would not only improve economic activities but also decongest the city and enhance urban development across the FCT.
