104 Nigerians Back from Algeria Under Voluntary Return Scheme

In another phase of the Assisted Voluntary Return programme, 104 Nigerians stranded in Algeria have been repatriated to the country through the support of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the Federal Government.

The returnees touched down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, aboard an Air Algerie flight (Flight No: 70-BKT) at about 1:50 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2025. They were received at the cargo terminal by officials from relevant government agencies.

A demographic breakdown showed that the group included 80 adult men, 14 adult women, five children, and three infants—many of whom had endured harsh conditions while seeking better opportunities abroad.

On arrival, the Nigerian Immigration Service carried out biometric registration and profiling. The returnees were also provided with immediate humanitarian support, including meals, clean water, basic medical care, ambulance services, and assistance with their luggage.

Authorities say the intervention is part of ongoing efforts to ensure the safe and dignified return of Nigerians from various parts of the world while facilitating reintegration into society.

This latest batch of returnees adds to the growing number of Nigerians brought home under the IOM-supported programme aimed at curbing irregular migration.
