The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has appealed to its elders to intervene in the crisis that followed the party’s recent senatorial and House of Representatives primary elections.
The dispute began after some aspirants, who were initially declared winners of the primaries, alleged that their names were replaced on the list of candidates submitted by the party’s National Working Committee to the Independent National Electoral Commission. The aggrieved aspirants subsequently approached the court to challenge the action.
In a bid to restore peace, the state APC inaugurated a reconciliation committee headed by the Chairman of the Ondo State Oil-Producing Areas Development Commission, Biyi Poroye.
Continuing the peace move, the state APC Chairman, Babatunde Kolawole, alongside members of the State Working Committee, paid a courtesy visit to former Deputy Governor of Ondo State and former Nigerian Ambassador to Uganda, Chief Omolade Oluwateru.
Kolawole said the party needed the support and experience of its elders to reconcile aggrieved members and strengthen unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He noted that disagreements after party primaries were not unusual, explaining that the reconciliation committee was set up to engage dissatisfied members and find lasting solutions to the issues.
Responding, Oluwateru commended the party leadership for taking steps to address the crisis through dialogue.
He pledged his continued loyalty to the APC and urged members to put aside their differences and work together for the party’s success. According to him, unity among party members remains crucial to securing victory for President Bola Tinubu and the APC in the 2027 general elections.
