NIGERIA’S AIRPORTS BRACE FOR FESTIVE SURGE AS FAAN STEPS IN

As the festive season approaches, Nigeria’s airports are bracing for the usual surge in holiday travelers. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has rolled out new measures aimed at reducing flight delays and improving the passenger experience.

FAAN Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, has directed all airlines to review and adjust their flight schedules ahead of the Christmas and New Year rush. The move is designed to tackle overcrowded schedules, aircraft shortages, and operational bottlenecks that often plague airports during the festive period.

To ensure smooth operations, FAAN has moved from quarterly stakeholder meetings to weekly sessions throughout December and January. Airlines, ground handlers, and airport managers will meet regularly to resolve issues promptly.

FAAN is also upgrading airport facilities, including repairing cooling systems, improving power supply, and enhancing sanitation in terminals. The agency insists that airports must remain “safe, secure, and welcoming” despite the seasonal spike in passenger traffic.

Analysts warn that without proper planning, flight delays and cancellations could escalate. FAAN has therefore urged airlines to provide timely updates on schedule changes, while passengers are advised to check flight information regularly.

Millions of travelers are expected to pass through Nigeria’s airports in the coming weeks. FAAN says it is committed to easing congestion and ensuring a smoother travel experience this Christmas.
