ROTARY CLUB IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT TOYIN ADEYALO-OGUNDARE REFLECTS ON REMARKABLE TENURE, SHOWCASES IMPACTFUL COMMUNITY PROJECTS

The immedate past president of the Rotary Club of Akure Metro, Toyin Adeyalo-Ogundare, has recounted her eventful year in office, highlighting a series of community-focused initiatives that have left lasting impressions on maternal health, education, youth development, and environmental sustainability in Ondo State.

In a recent post on her verified Facebook page, Adeyalo-Ogundare shared her excitement after a meeting with a renowned medical consultant, Dr. Lawal Olawale Oyeneyin, who expressed pride in her leadership and contributions during her tenure.

The Rotary year, she noted, was particularly significant as the club was re-districted into Rotary International District 9126, singling her out as one of the pioneer officers in the new district.

Among the club’s notable achievements under her leadership were:

Maternal and Child Health: The immediate past president mentioned that the club, under her watch, collaborated with the Office of the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E. Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency, and two other Rotary clubs in Akure to commemorate World Breastfeeding Week. Efforts included attempting a Guinness World Record for the most breastfeeding mothers at a single sitting, and donations of buckets, detergents, and cash gifts to mothers, especially those with twins.

Education and Literacy: Students at Imafon Community High School received training on Computer-Based Testing (CBT) and strategies to improve mathematics scores, and donations of 500 exercise books and pens.

Rotary Foundation: Innovative fundraising methods such as TRF donation boxes and cards were introduced, enabling members to track donations and contribute efficiently. The innovation received accolades from the District Governor and has been adopted by other clubs.

Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene: The club partnered with the Ondo State Waste Management Board and local government agencies to carry out environmental sanitation exercises in markets and townships, drawing admiration from local leaders.

Environment: Tree planting campaigns were conducted to combat climate change, along with the renovation and lighting of the clubhouse.

Vocational Service: Over 60 students, six teachers, and Rotarians were trained on fire safety, and fire blankets were donated to schools. The club renovated and equipped the physics and chemistry laboratories at Imafon Community High School, an effort formally commissioned by District Governor Kayode Olowolagba.

Disease Prevention and Treatment: In collaboration with the Ondo State Ministry of Health, 1,000 sanitary pads were provided to students and teachers across private and public schools, alongside health talks advocating for period-friendly toilets.

Youth Service: The club sponsored two candidates to the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy and chartered two Interact Clubs, providing necessary equipment and training for student officers.

Membership and Club Development: Fun meetings and games nights were introduced to strengthen engagement, while a new club, Rotary Club of Akure Diamond, was chartered under guidance from the District Governor.

Adeyalo-Ogundare highlighted several awards received during her tenure, including the Club Excellence Award 2024–25, recognition as one of the best-performing presidents in District 9126, and commendations from schools and local partners.

Reflecting on the year, she described it as “truly magical” and urged others to join the Rotary movement in continuing service to the community.
