Princess Catherine Oladunni Odu, a seasoned administrator and public servant, is emerging as a leading contender to represent Ondo State in the Senate. With decades of experience in governance, law, and education, she is poised to continue a legacy of transformative leadership.
A Lifetime of Academic Excellence
Born on 29th December 1952 in Okitipupa, Princess Odu began her educational journey at St. Louis Secondary School, Ondo (1964–1968). She earned a National Diploma in Secretariat Studies from Ibadan Polytechnic in 1973 and graduated with Second-Class Upper in Sociology from the University of Benin in 1979.
Her pursuit of knowledge continued with a Master of Science in Industrial Sociology from the University of Calabar, a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the University of Lagos in 1989, a Barrister-at-Law qualification from the Nigerian Law School in 1990, and a distinction in her Master of Laws (LL.M) from the University of Lagos in 1992. She is currently undertaking a Ph.D. at the University of Ado-Ekiti.
Decades of Public Service
After completing her National Youth Service Corps in 1980, Princess Odu served ten years at the Federal Ministry of Employment, Labour and Productivity. She went on to hold key positions including:
- Commissioner for Education, Ondo State (1995–1999)
- Commissioner for Women Affairs (January–May 1999)
- Chairman, Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) (2003–2009; reappointed 2017)
- Director, Federal Medical Centre, Asaba (2013–2015)
- Federal Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission, Akure (2015)
Historic Achievements
Princess Oladunni Odu made history as the first female Secretary to the State Government in Ondo State, cementing her reputation as a trailblazer and champion for women in leadership.
