GOV. AIYEDATIWA SALUTES FALLEN HEROES, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO SECURITY PERSONNEL

The 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Juma’at Prayer was held today at the Central Mosque, Democracy Park, Akure, drawing a distinguished gathering of state leaders, top security stakeholders, and eminent citizens.

The occasion was graced by the Representative of the Brigadier Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Nigerian Army, the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adebowale Lawal, members of the State Executive Council, security operatives, officials of the Nigerian Legion, women leaders, civil servants, and other dignitaries.

Governor Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa led the gathering in a solemn moment of reflection to honour fallen heroes and reaffirm the state’s commitment to peace, unity, and national security. Represented at the service by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Aminu Takuro, the Governor commended the sacrifices of officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies, describing their service as fundamental to the peace and survival of the nation.

“Security personnel have chosen a path of sacrifice for the safety of our people. Many have paid the ultimate price, and their courage deserves our respect, support, and cooperation,” Governor Aiyedatiwa said, urging residents to show appreciation to ex-servicemen and paramilitary officers. He also encouraged the public to support the Nigerian Legion by purchasing the Armed Forces Remembrance Day emblem, which symbolises collective gratitude to veterans and fallen heroes.

Governor Aiyedatiwa assured that his administration would continue to prioritise the welfare of fallen heroes’ families while fostering unity and peaceful coexistence among people of different faiths and ethnic backgrounds. He further commended security agencies in the state for their professionalism and collaboration in maintaining law and order.

In his sermon, the Chief Imam of Akure, Alhaji Dr. Abdulhakeem Yayi Akorede, called on leaders at all levels to support the Armed Forces and promote national unity. He applauded Governor Aiyedatiwa for ongoing developmental projects across Akure and Ondo State, highlighting the administration’s commitment to the welfare of security personnel.

Also speaking at the event, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Seun Osamaye, described the Remembrance Day as a solemn occasion to honour veterans, both living and deceased, while reaffirming the government’s dedication to supporting them and their families as a reflection of compassionate governance.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Legion in Ondo State, Major Folorunso Ajibowu Akingboju (Rtd), praised the state government for its continued support to legion members, noting Governor Aiyedatiwa’s donation of his one-month salary to launch the Remembrance Day emblem.

The service concluded with prayers for peace, stability, and progress in Ondo State, underscoring the enduring bond between the government, security agencies, and citizens in safeguarding the nation.
