…WIKE ORDERS FREE MEDICAL TREATMENT FOR VICTIMS
At least five persons have been confirmed dead, while 10 others were rescued alive following the collapse of a three-storey building under construction in the Durumi 3 area, near Gudu Market in Abuja, on Saturday morning.
The incident, which occurred at a construction site around the Gaduwa Estate axis of the Gudu District, threw the area into panic as workers and residents were reportedly caught up in the sudden structural failure.
Emergency responders were still engaged in search-and-rescue operations as of the time of filing this report, with indications that more persons may still be trapped beneath the debris.
Personnel of the Federal Fire Service, officials of security agencies, health workers, and local volunteers were deployed to the scene, working through the rubble in a coordinated effort to recover survivors and evacuate victims.
Eyewitnesses said the structure gave way without warning, sparking confusion and distress among residents and passersby who rushed to assist before emergency teams arrived.
The Mandate Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, who visited the scene, confirmed that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has directed that all victims of the incident be given free medical treatment.

She assured that government would ensure prompt medical attention for the injured, while efforts continued to account for all those affected.
Rescue operations were ongoing amid heavy presence of emergency personnel and anxious onlookers who gathered around the site as authorities battled to stabilize the situation and prevent further casualties.
