The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has confirmed the release of the Nigerian girls who were previously detained in Mauritius.
In a statement issued by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the Commission’s Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocol Unit, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, is in close engagement with the relevant Nigerian Embassy, which has formally taken up the matter with the authorities concerned to ensure accountability and prevent a recurrence.
According to her, the girls have been safely released in Nairobi and are currently en route to Nigeria.
The NiDCOM Chairman, expressing empathy, hoped that the affected ladies would be willing to share their experiences to inform any necessary follow-up actions and support measures.
Dabiri-Erewa reiterated that the welfare, safety, and protection of Nigerians, wherever they may be, will always remain a priority, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, to support Nigerians at home and across the diaspora.
