The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has urged graduates of Lagos State University to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s development, regardless of where they find themselves.
Dabiri-Erewa made the call while delivering the convocation lecture at the 29th and 30th convocation ceremonies of Lagos State University.
Speaking to the graduands, she challenged them to embrace the ideals of being “useful, visible and Nigerian” as they begin the next phase of their lives.
She urged the graduates to think globally and pursue excellence while maximising their knowledge, networks and available opportunities to make meaningful contributions to the country.

According to her, LASU graduates should not limit their impact to their immediate environment but should seek opportunities to contribute to Nigeria’s development wherever they live and work.
“Go into the world, make an impact, stay connected to home, and give back,” she urged.

Dabiri-Erewa also encouraged the graduates to remain connected to Nigeria even when opportunities take them outside the country, stressing the importance of giving back to their communities and contributing to national development.

She further emphasised the potential of Nigerians in the diaspora to support the country’s growth through their skills, expertise, networks and resources.
The lecture was part of activities marking LASU’s 29th and 30th convocation ceremonies and was attended by Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, top government officials, academics, graduates, parents and other stakeholders.

Dabiri-Erewa’s message centred on excellence, national identity, global engagement and the responsibility of graduates to use their education and opportunities to create positive impact.
