Voters in Osun on Saturday turned out to elect the next governor of the state in the governorship election being conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The election is taking place across the state’s 30 Local Government Areas, with 15 candidates contesting the governorship seat.

Accreditation and voting commenced at about 8:30 a.m. in several polling units across the state.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, the Accord candidate, cast his ballot at Polling Unit 009, Ward 02, Agbogunde-Sagba, Ede North, after arriving at the polling unit at about 8:30 a.m.

At Iroyin Ayo Open Space, Polling Unit 013, Elejigbo D/Elejemo Ward, Ejigbo Local Government Area, party agents reportedly requested that presiding officers count the ballot papers before voting commenced.

The presiding officers, however, explained that counting the ballot papers at that stage could delay the commencement of voting.

The polling unit has 594 registered voters and is also the polling unit of the African Democratic Congress governorship candidate, Najeem Salam.

Meanwhile, voters were seen at several polling units across the state, with some checking their names on the displayed voters’ registers while others waited for accreditation and voting.

At Sabo Agbongbe II, Ward 7, Polling Units 001 and 011 in Ede Local Government Area, voting cubicles and other election materials had been arranged before the commencement of voting.

The election is expected to continue throughout the day, with voters exercising their franchise across the state.
