Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), is set to host its 59th inaugural lecture, with Professor Adebayo Fatukasi scheduled to deliver a discourse focused on Nigeria’s economic challenges and prospects for recovery.

The lecture, billed for Tuesday, April 21, 2026, will take place at the University Multipurpose Hall by 2:00 p.m., with guests expected to be seated by 1:30 p.m.

Professor Fatukasi’s presentation is themed “Reducing Poverty in Our Land: Divine Mandate of Development Economist!” and is expected to interrogate poverty reduction strategies and economic restructuring for inclusive national development.

The university said the event will be presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige, while the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebisi Daramola, will serve as Chairman of Ceremonies. Top management staff, academics, students, and members of the public are expected at the lecture.

A statement from the institution highlighted Professor Fatukasi’s academic journey, noting that he obtained his Master’s degree in Economics and Finance in 1994 from the Higher Institute of Economics “Karl Marx” in Sofia, Bulgaria, before proceeding to Austria’s Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration, where he earned a PhD in Economics in 2002.

He joined AAUA in 2003 as Lecturer II in the Department of Economics and rose through the ranks to become a professor in 2019, following years of teaching, research, and administrative service.

Over the years, he has held several positions within the university, including Head of Department, Sub-Dean, Acting Dean, Coordinator of postgraduate programmes, and Director of the Institute of Part-Time Programmes and Centre for Distance Learning, among others.

The don has authored two books, published 28 journal articles, and contributed to four academic volumes, with research interests in poverty dynamics, fiscal policy, development finance, and institutional reforms.

He has also participated in academic engagements across Nigeria and abroad, including Ghana and China, and previously served as adjunct lecturer at Achievers University, Owo, as well as external examiner at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo.

The lecture is expected to examine development economics as a tool for poverty alleviation and sustainable growth, while also advancing policy recommendations aimed at improving living standards and bridging inequality gaps in Nigeria.
