Fighter jets of the Nigerian Air Force have bombarded the hideouts of Boko Haram insurgents in Bita, Borno State, killing scores of terrorists in a series of precision airstrikes carried out on Wednesday night.
The operation, conducted by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, is described as one of the most decisive strikes against the terrorist group in recent times.
Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, said in a statement on Thursday that the air raids targeted fleeing terrorists and significantly disrupted their movement in the area.
“The night operation represents a major leap in the ongoing efforts to dismantle the operational capabilities of terrorist elements undermining national security in the North-East,” the statement read in part.
Gabkwet added that the Air Force remains committed to the defence of Nigeria’s territorial integrity and the protection of law-abiding citizens.
“All necessary measures are being taken to ensure that terrorist elements have no safe haven anywhere within the country,” he said.
The latest offensive comes amid intensified military operations aimed at rooting out insurgents across the region.
